Permits to operate motorized and non-motorized boats are required in the state of Oregon. Additional permitting is required to boat the Wild and Scenic Snake River.
Motorized vs. non-motorized: while any watercraft type requires a permit, certain watercraft may be prohibited from certain water bodies. Check for more details for the lake or river of your interest.
Non-native species that threaten local ecosystems can hitch a ride to pristine water on your watercraft. Take care to follow all directives related to invasive species care before launching your boat in local waters.

Be respectful and safe when close to wildlife. Do not approach animals, handle young, or create other disturbances that may endanger yourself, other humans, or animals.
If you spot wildlife while driving, keep your eyes on the road, or pull over and stop if you want a better view.
Wildlife movements are highly seasonal, so if you’re excited to see a particular animal, or if you know you’ll be visiting during a certain month, be sure to check where wildlife might be best spotted during each season.
