This interactive museum and outdoor site illuminates the challenges, triumphs, and profound impact of this historic migration that shaped the American west.

The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is operated by the Bureau of Land Management and brings the rich history of America’s westward expansion to life through immersive exhibits, interactive programs, and breathtaking landscapes. With a blend of historical exhibits, engaging programs, and dynamic events, NHOTIC provides visitors with opportunities to explore the diverse stories of the Oregon Trail and beyond. Whether you’re discovering the daily lives of pioneers, learning about the cultural impact of westward expansion, or experiencing history through hands-on activities, there’s always something new to uncover.

ACTIVITIES

History Exhibits

The exhibits at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center offer an immersive journey into the lives of pioneers, the Native American cultures they encountered, and the enduring legacy of the Oregon Trail. From artifacts and detailed dioramas to interactive displays, each exhibit brings history to life in a unique and memorable way. Hiking

The Flagstaff Hill loop hike offers visitors sweeping vistas of the Baker Valley and surrounding mountains. Learn about local geology and see wagon ruts made by travelers on the actual Oregon Trail.

Shopping

Check out the Lone Pine Mercantile during open hours for great souvenirs.

Getting There

From Main Street, head north and turn right onto Campbell Street. Turn left on Cedar Street/OR-86 and follow it out of town and under I-84. From the Junction with I-84, continue on OR-86 for six more miles, then turn left at the sign for the Interpretive Center.

Daily: 10am – 5pm

Winter (November 1-March 20)

Thursday: 9am-5pm
Friday: 9am-5pm
Saturday: 9am-5pm
Sunday: 9am-5pm

NHOTIC is open year-round, though hours vary by season.

Cost of Admission

Adult (ages 16-62) – $5.00
Senior (ages 62+) – $4.00
Cancellation Fee- $1.00 per ticket
