America’s deepest canyon
Deeper than the Grand Canyon? Yup. At just shy of 8,000 feet deep, you could fit 4.5 Empire State Buildings between the Snake River flowing at the canyon base and the canyon rim above.

Scenic wilderness
The Hells Canyon National Recreation Area and Hells Canyon Wilderness offer boundless ways to play and experience this geologic marvel, including amazing whitewater rafting.
The Hells Canyon Scenic Byway offers a picturesque drive through the communities and climates along the canyon’s edge.
THINGS TO KNOW
ACCESS
How you want to experience Hells Canyon effects how you access it. For those wanting a sweeping overlook, driving the scenic byway to the iconic Hells Canyon Overlook is your ticket. For those who want to be down in the canyon, you can drive through Oxbow to the end of the road. And those who want to be on the water have different access points along the Snake River. All these experiences are not close to each other, so have an idea of what you want to do and plan accordingly.
WEATHER & SEASONS
Portions of the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway close to vehicles during the winter. Other access points to the Snake River remain open year-round.
