SUMMARY:Third Thursday - Downtown Sip\, Stroll\, Shop\, Support
DESCRIPTION:Third Thursday of every month\, March-December\, from 5-7 pm. \nRaise a glass & raise some funds! \nBaker City Downtown hosts a “Boozy Baker” walk starting at a different location downtown every month. A $12 donation gets you a map of participating businesses and a BCD logo sampling glass that you can keep at the end of the night if you choose. \nYour money goes to two different nonprofits: \n\nWe select a partnering charity to co-host the event most months. The partner charity is given up to half of the proceeds made during the event. Some examples of previous partner groups are:\n\nCASA of Eastern Oregon\nBaker County Public Library\nSoroptimists of Baker County\n\n\nThe rest of the funds raised during this event help support your local 501(c)3 nonprofit representing and serving downtown\, Baker City Downtown\, offer fun events like Third Thursday to our community.\n\nWe suggest hitting the shops and boutiques on the map first! Most stay open late just for this event\, whereas restaurants and bars tend to be open later. \n \n

By creating a focused day\nof celebration to show support for dance as a valuable form of exercise and of artistic expression\, American\nDance Movement aims to educate the public about dance and its many benefits\, as well as make dance\naccessible and inclusive to everyone. American Dance Movement (ADM) believes that participation in\ndance connects the mind and body\, promotes health and wellbeing\, connects us with others and\nenables us to find joy through dance and movement. National Dance Day (NDD) is a day of\ncelebrating dance\, in all its forms\, and takes place annually on the third Saturday in September.”\nThis is Crossroads 4 th Day of Dance event and free to all and is great multi-generational event.\nCrossroads would appreciate and suggest a $5.00 per person donation to help to continue to pay all\nthe costs of this event. \nGuests need to bring a chair or a blanket and come to enjoy the whole event. \nCrossroads has invited numerous food vendors who will be parked on Grove Street including MC\nTaco Bus\, Celtic Cauldon Kettle Korn\, Austin Street Dogs\, Mountain Jim Cotton Candy and the Baker\nCounty YMCA (selling drinks). Asian Fusion will also be providing a 10% discount off an order when \npresenting the official program. Baker Heritage Museum also has Free Museum Day all day as well.\nCrossroads will be selling raffle tickets at the event for fantastic raffle prizes which will fund the 2027\nDay of Dance event. \nEach year\, Crossroads works to welcome new groups to keep the event fresh every year. This year\nwe are thrilled to welcome Jayanthi Raman Dance Company from Portland\, Oregon who are touring\nEastern Oregon. \n“Jayanthi Raman is a dancer\, choreographer and master artist who has a critically acclaimed and an\nextensive and impressive career spanning three decades. Using the Indian classical dance form\nBharatha Natyam as the starting point for her exploration\, she creates thought provoking work. Her\ncontemporary approach to classicism is provocative in our cultural environment. She worked hard to\nperform in proscenium theaters\, became an educator of repute\, and finally a cultural ambassador;\ncreating a prominent and vital position for Bharatha Natyam and for herself in the world of dance. Her\nwork sets her apart as a renowned and respected scholar of the art form. \nRaman’s work as a choreographer is grounded in the centuries old classical dance form yet draws\ninspiration from newer concepts and themes as well as using modern lighting and technology. Her\nchoreography based in ancient Indian traditions\, has been lauded for its deep-rooted classicism as\nwell as for its aesthetic experimentation and willingness to cross boundaries. Her enthusiasm to take\nrisks and explore unpredictable and complex movements has established her as an exciting and\ngroundbreaking choreographer. She has choreographed 25 full length evening works and numerous\nsolo and group pieces. \nRaman has created a unique language that expresses her personal Indo-American identity. Raman\nhas become a recognized persona in the US\, called as a “cultural treasure” (Oregonian) and as a\n“world class dancer” and “scholar of dances” (DANCE Magazine). She is reputed as a scholar by the\ncritics and her peers and as the ‘Gold standard of Indian dance in the region’. As a performer and\nchoreographer\, she is well known for her precise footwork and her eloquent abhinaya -expressive\ndance. She has performed numerous solo and thematic performances at reputed dance festivals and\nperforming art centers in US and internationally with critical acclaim.” \nJayanthi and her dancers will be performing “Devi: Goddess Within Me.” This traditional Indian\ndance theater production is grounded on Indian classical traditional dance form Bharatha Natyam\nfrom South India\, as well as folk dances which lend itself to innovation seamlessly. Featuring\ncompany repertoire dancers\, with lead dancer/choreographer Jayanthi Raman\, and visiting\ninternational dancers from Delhi\, the production features original music score and poetry drawn from\nancient and contemporary poets. \nThis year’s event is sponsored by:\nCreative West “Tour West” and the National Endowment for the Arts\, Idaho Power\, Baker City\nDowntown Festival of Trees Grant\, Baker County Cultural Coalition/Oregon Cultural Trust\, Steve\nRitch Environmental\, Judy Baker\, Mary Apple\, ElErradero\, Jenny Albright\, Anne Clark\, Anne Carr\,\nBryn & Robin Crowell\, Amy Gaarsland\, Terry Foersterling\, Suzanne Fouty\, Mae Hawthorn\, Carolyn\nKulog\, Sherri Linnemeyer\, Craig Lord\, Geri Lynn\, Esa Murrell\, Pam Peyron\, Marlene Prowell\, Kerry &\nGinger Savage\, Mary & Jim Tomlinson\, Sherry Williams\, and all the many anonymous donors from\nthe Bingo Bake Sale\, Dine for Day of Dance and Raffle Fundraisers. \n

SUMMARY:18th Annual Great Salt Lick Auction
DESCRIPTION:As every cowboy and cowgirl knows\, critters can be pretty darn creative when deriving minerals from a block of salt. By auctioning off the works of art\, the Great Salt Lick contest has used that animal creativity to raise over $175\,000 for Parkinson’s Research at OHSU! \nCreated by local artist\, photographer and creative entertainer Whit Deschner\, the Great Salt Lick Contest & Auction became a claim to fame for the ranching community of Baker City\, Oregon. The community sits in the heart of cattle country\, surrounded by mountains and grasslands. Deschner led the event through 15 years and has handed over the reins to the Baker City Lions Club. He’ll still be on hand to inspire the auction\, as will the longtime auctioneer\, Mib Dailey\, and food and beverages from the likes of our award-winning Barley Brown Brewing and Copper Belt Winery. \nDon’t miss our 16th annual event! \nFREE \nFood available from MC Taco Bus and drinks from Strade B Bar
