Granite Creek is a mountain drainage west of Granite that flows through forest, old mining country, and wilderness terrain before joining the North Fork John Day River. The creek is reached by Granite Creek Trail #3016, a 3.4-mile wilderness access route that descends through lodgepole forest and historic mining landscapes into the North Fork John Day Wilderness. It is one of the primary entry routes into this section of wilderness and is popular for hiking, horseback riding, creek access, and dispersed camping.

Hikes in the Elkhorns can be difficult and require skills and preparation. Summers can be hot and dry. Research your route to ensure a successful trip.
