The Elkhorn Scenic Byway is a 106-mile paved loop through northeastern Oregon that passes historic mining communities, forested mountain passes, alpine lakes, and ranchland surrounding the Elkhorn Mountains. The route connects Baker City, Sumpter, Granite, Haines, and the Anthony Lakes area, combining gold rush history with mountain scenery and outdoor recreation.

Getting There

Take OR-7 west toward Sumpter, continue through Granite, cross the Elkhorn Mountains toward Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort, descend through Haines, and return to Baker City. Allow 5-7 hours with stops.

Seasons

The road between Sumpter and Anthony Lakes may be closed during winter weather conditions.
