Quiet lake with easy trail access
Just off the Elkhorn Crest Trail and a short hike from Anthony Lake, Black Lake is a quieter destination in the Anthony Lakes hiking area. At dusk on the right day enjoy the changing colors of the sky and wait to see what kind of wildlife you’ll find along the lakeshore.

Hiking
You can reach Black Lake by starting either at the Elkhorn Crest Trailhead or the Anthony Lake boat launch parking area. Both routes are about 1 mile to the lake with 200 feet of elevation gain.
You can extend your hike by connecting to other trails that take you further into the Elkhorns, including via the Elkhorn Crest trail which connects to the other side of Anthony Lake by way of the Crawfish Basin trail.

Getting There
From Downtown Baker City, take Broadway west until it turns north onto 10th Street and becomes US-30. Continue on US-30 for 10.5 miles. When you arrive in Haines, turn left on 4th Street. Continue onto Rock Creek Rd/Anthony Lakes Highway for another 11 miles. Continue onto NFD-73 for 7 miles. The Resort will be on the left. Follow roads to Anthony Lake itself – you can park either near the boat ramp or the picnic area.
