Towns of the past
Small abandoned, unincorporated communities located along Highway 203. Pondosa began in 1927 as a company mill town (about 24 miles from Baker), while Medical Springs (about 25 miles from Baker) was established in 1868 around hot springs.
Today you can stop by the eccentric Pondosa Store and see the sign claiming to mark the geographic cent of the 50 United States. It’s a fun detour as you explore the northern part of the Valley or head into the Wallowas.

Getting There
From Baker City, take I-84 W/N for 5 miles to exit 298 for Medical Springs/OR-203. Follow OR-203 for 17 miles to the old town sites.
