All Aboard For A Trip Back In Time
Hop on the historic steam-powered train for a scenic ride through gold country.
Watch out for robbers…you are in the Wild West after all.
There are two possible starting locations for a train ride, depending on your particular ride details. Make sure you know the starting point!
The McEwen depot, yards, and Baker County Day Park are located 23 miles southwest of Baker City, Oregon on Highway 7. As McEwen is the location of the shops and equipment storage for the railroad, it is the originating depot which means that all trains out of the McEwen depot are round trip unless otherwise noted.
The Sumpter station is located on the entrance to the Dredge State Heritage Area on Austin Street in Sumpter proper. The town Sumpter is located 5.5 miles west of McEwen, and the turn to Sumpter and Granite off of Highway 7 is clearly marked, as is the entrance to the Dredge State Heritage Area.
For a full list of train rides, check out the Sumpter Valley Railroad calendar.
Rides typically begin Memorial Day weekend and continue through the Halloween weekend. Christmas rides occur the first couple of weekends in December.
Ride fares vary based on train type, trip length, and passenger age. Find a full breakdown of fares at the Sumpter Valley Railroad website.
